Delta Force - Operation Acid Gambit (Panama), 1989
"Delta Force’s daring raid ended with the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi—and changed the fight against terror forever."
STORY: In October 2019, Delta Force launched a covert, high-stakes operation deep inside Syria’s Idlib province to find and eliminate ISIS’s most notorious leader. Eight Black Hawk helicopters flew through hostile airspace, navigating Turkish and Russian-monitored borders, to reach a fortified compound near the Turkish border. Under cover of night, Delta operators moved swiftly. Guarded by precision, they breached walls, avoiding booby-traps, and stormed the compound. As chaos erupted inside, Baghdadi fled into a tunnel with three children. Dogs pursued him as he dragged himself deeper into the complex. Cornered, Baghdadi detonated his suicide vest, killing himself and his children, preventing capture and striking a major blow against ISIS. The elite team secured the compound, collected intelligence, and withdrew quickly, ensuring no American casualties. The mission’s success was a tactical victory—debilitating ISIS’s command structure and symbolically striking at global terror.
