Polish GROM - Iraq War Operations, 2003-2008
"They captured more high-value targets in Iraq than any unit except Delta Force. You've never heard of them."
STORY: GROM (Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego) operated in the shadows during the Iraq War, conducting some of the most dangerous missions alongside American units. In 2003, GROM operators secured Iraqi oil platforms in the Persian Gulf before Saddam could destroy them, fast-roping from helicopters onto rigs rigged with explosives. Later, they hunted high-value targets throughout Iraq. One operation involved tracking a bomb-maker who'd killed dozens of coalition troops. GROM followed intelligence for three weeks, conducting surveillance in hostile neighbourhoods where discovery meant death. When they finally located him, they breached his compound at dawn, capturing him and three associates without firing a shot. GROM conducted over 200 direct action missions in Iraq, capturing or eliminating scores of insurgents. Their success rate rivalled Delta Force and SEAL Team Six, yet they received almost no public recognition. That's how they prefer it.
