Philippine Scout Rangers - Raid at Kauswagan, 2017
"ISIS fighters beheaded civilians on camera. Scout Rangers tracked them through jungle and gave no mercy."
STORY: 2017. ISIS-affiliated Maute Group terrorized Marawi City, Philippines, beheading civilians and posting videos online. Scout Rangers, the Philippines' elite jungle warfare unit, hunted them through dense rainforest where drones were useless and satellites couldn't penetrate. One unit tracked a Maute leadership cell to Kauswagan. The Rangers moved through triple-canopy jungle for three days, communicating with hand signals, sleeping in trees. When they located the compound, they waited until dawn when targets were most vulnerable. The assault was swift and violent. Using suppressed weapons and machetes for close combat, Rangers eliminated 13 high-value targets before the rest of the compound woke up. No Rangers were injured. They melted back into the jungle before reinforcements arrived. The Maute Group never recovered from the leadership loss. Scout Rangers don't just fight in the jungle. They become part of it.
